First week of school...

So Cain started his first ever full day of school last week. The first day went really well - no tears at all. But the third day was a different story. I think just the all day schedule had caught up with him, he was tired. And the newness of it had worn off already so day three was crying - from both of us. He did great the next day though so crossing my fingers for tomorrow.

Getting back on the horse...

or so to speak. I have decided to follow along with Brittany's September writing prompts - I am not going to promise to do every single one every day but I am going to try and get to as many as I can. Hopefully it gets me back into the blogging mode when I am not feeling it.

Day #1 - You are having a dinner party,
which 10 famous people would be on your guest list?

I think I would have to say some of my favorite celebs would be Kristen Bell - Mindy Kaling - Tina Fey - Kristen Wiig - Jimmy Fallon - Justin Timberlake - Kelly Rippa - Louis C.K. - Amy Poehler - and long time favorite Julia Roberts :)

5 year old Cain

So Cain just turned 5 and he couldn't be prouder of that. He tells anyone he sees that he's 5 now. He also lets me know often that he can jump higher and run faster now that he's 5 :) He is so incredibly smart (I know all parents say that) and funny. Always asking questions that I can't believe his little mind is thinking of these things and making jokes (that make no sense what-so-ever but with such conviction). He has learned to ride his bike with no training wheels which is another big accomplishment in our house. He has really started to become so brave in things he once shied away from.
He loves Ninja Turtles, going to the movies, swimming, riding his bike, jumping on the trampoline, and playing made up games he thinks of in his room with his stuffed animals and toys. He is still a tiny guy but gained 3 pounds and 2 inches from his last years checkup. He is still a good eater - I really can't complain about his eating habits at all. He still likes drawing/painting and his imagination runs wild in his art. I love it. He also still loves all things animals - Wild Kratts is one of his favorite shows.
Tomorrow my little guy starts all day school. I'm super excited for him because I know he'll do great. I am also super sad to have to share him and his days/adventures. I hope we prepared him enough. I hope he is nice and kind. I hope he sticks up for himself. I hope he is helpful. I hope if he is scared or nervous he asks for help. I hope he grows and is allowed to be the amazing person he is growing into. I don't want his dreams, personality, his ideas to ever be crushed. I hope he can open all his stuff at lunch time. I hope he can work his belt on and off as well as he's been able to do at home. I hope he doesn't for one second feel unloved! I know I'll be doing the ugly cry tomorrow after I drop him off - oy vey.

2 year old Carly

So Carly is two and her little personality sure is blooming! She is talking a mile a minute all the time. She is starting to become a little bossy pants too- telling Cain what he should and shouldn't be doing - and sometimes he even listens :)
She has taken off with potty training - thank goodness! She goes all day in her big girl undies (except nap/bedtime) with only random accidents maybe once a week. We just started venturing out in public sans diaper and it's going good. She still loves to eat but is starting to get picky about what she'll eat. I have gotten creative in finding ways to get her to eat - lots of singing at dinner time - "if you're happy and you know it eat your peas, yum yum". It works folks :)
We have entered the phase of "me do it" for every. single. thing. I forgot how annoying this stage can be because while you want them to learn how do things independently you also don't want to take half an hour just to get shoes on in the morning. Right now she loves riding her bike, reading books (still Pinkalicious every day) she loves Daniel Tiger and you won't see her often without her Minnie in hand. We have switched from sippy cups over to big girl cups and just the other day took the side off of her crib to convert it into her big girl bed. She loves it and hasn't realized yet that she can get out whenever she wants - I know it's only a matter of time.
I really love this age and all the new stuff it brings! Our family schedule is going to get a complete makeover next week with Cain going to school all day (I can't stop crying) and my work schedule changing up a bit but I'm looking forward to the change and think it will be good for all of us :)

Birthday Cakes

My kids have always had homemade birthday cakes or cupcakes for their birthdays. Chris' Mom, Jackie, always made all the family cakes and now that she is no longer here with us we are super lucky to have his sister, Angie, take over and carry on the tradition :) I was just thinking of Cain's 5th birthday cake - let me just take a minute and cry because I will soon have a 5 year old! Ok so it got me thinking about our past cakes.

Cain's 1st birthday - a monkey theme - made by Grandma Jackie

Almost a month

Oh my goodness it's been almost a month sense I last blogged - so crazy! We sure our enjoying our summer. So a little highlight of what has been going on with us...
Cain finished his first t-ball season. He did so great and it was a wonderful experience for him, I am sure he will be doing it again next year. He had an end of the season party that was so much fun - the best part for him was the trophy!

For the 4th of July we went to the parade in Northville. It was so hot out and super crowded but we had so much fun.

Then my sister and her family came up that weekend and stayed with us for a week. The kids loved having their cousins here! We ended up going to the zoo, just playing and swimming in the backyard, and shopping :)

We celebrated my Mom's 50th birthday! My Mom didn't know my sister was coming into town so she was super surprised for her birthday.

Catching up...

I sort of - kind of - fell off the face of the "blogging" world this past few weeks. I only know this because I was informed by my sister :) I've been trying to "unplug" and enjoy my summer and unfortunately my blog is always the first to go. So the last few weeks...

1. Chris and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary on June 9th. It seems crazy that it's gone by so fast and at the same time it feels like he's never not been there.

2. We went up north and celebrated our nephew's 5th birthday. We had tons of fun that day. Cain straight up lost it when Jett opened his ninja turtle mask and shell. He came over to me - sat on my lap - and cried because he wanted one and wanted to wear it. It was so sweet. He wanted to know why he has to wait all the way until August to have his birthday.

3. Carly turned 2 on Father's Day this year. We had a "Pinkalicious" birthday party for her. She loves her "Pinkalicious" book so much I knew I wanted to do her party around that this year. Here are a few pictures of her party.

4. I got to spend some time with my Dad - which I always love doing. The kids and I stayed the night with him at his new apartment and we really enjoyed it. The next morning we went to the famous "Cops and Doughnuts" for breakfast :)

5. Cain had his last t-ball game over the weekend. He was really starting to get into it. I kind of wish they had another season over the summer that you could sign up for. Here he is batting at the last game. He has his end of the season party this weekend and he is so excited about it!

I hope you are all enjoying your summer!

Memorial Weekend...

I hope everyone had a great Memorial weekend. We had the best weather ever and enjoyed our long weekend. It even got warm enough to fill up our little kiddie pool. We had a bbq and roasted hot dogs and enjoyed our first smores of the season.

My phone is broken so I haven't been able to take pictures like I normally do. I did get the big camera out for a bit so I'll have to share those pictures later.
Cain is almost done with school, only a few more days left. He is going to be going to young 5's and we have orientation for that tomorrow night. I am really hoping he does as well as he did this year at his new school next fall.
Now that I am used to Cain being gone a few hours a few days a week I feel like this is going to be a long summer. Ha! I know when he has a long break from school he gets antsy and sick of being home with me all day every day. I'm hoping to plan some things to keep us busy this summer. Say a prayer for us :)
We have entered the stage of  "get out of my room". Cain will be playing something and have all his toys placed just so and Carly will march in there and want to play. Cain freaks out, kicks her out, and slams the door. Then Carly cries from the other side hoping he will open it. It's just so much fun.
My mom is coming to stay with us next week for the week and I'm pretty excited! So other then that I'm just planning Carly's second birthday which is coming up so fast. I can't believe she's going to be two! Also still enjoying Cain's t-ball games.
What will everyone be doing this summer? I am in need of some ideas to keep us all busy and sane :)
