8 days

In 8 days I am going on vacation. A legit vacation. It is a legit vacay because for 3 and a half days I will not have to feed anyone else while I eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I will not have to have any children waking me up in the middle of the night or sleeping in my bed. I will not have to ask anyone if they have to go potty. I will linger in bed in the morning if I feel so inclined. I will not worry about hurrying so we can make it home for naps. Aghhhh....8 more days, lol :)
Other then that I'm sorry about the absence of posts here on my little ol blog. Trying to enjoy the rest of the summer before it flies by. Things like the zoo and visiting family. Chris' mom isn't doing super great so we have been trying to get up north every weekend possible. I'll try and post some newer photos soon and it you don't already follow me on instagram for more everyday photos - cktimes3.

Fucking dogs

So let's start this post by saying that I like dogs but...

last year or like a year and a half ago I got bit by a "really nice dog" in the back of my leg while I was walking out of a house with a bunch or people. Sense then I've been really paranoid about big dogs. Also sense then there have been many occasions, ok like three, where I'm walking around the neighborhood and random dogs that are loose come running up to me. I've been with other people every time this has happened until last night.

I decided to go for a walk in the evening ,and I was a few streets away from my house, when a freaking pitbull comes running up to me from the side. My mom had just called me a minute before this so I'm having a conversation with her and then all of the sudden "oh shit oh shit oh shit" and I gave my mom a heart attack.

I didn't know what to do so as I'm trying not to die of a heart attack I head through the first lawn and start banging on the door of a random stranger all while this pit bull is directly behind me. It wouldn't go away. Someone finally answers the door and lets me in as I'm explaining what happened.

All this happening while my mom is on the phone - but I forgot that I was talking to her so she is just like listening and thinking I'm getting abducted or something. It was so freaking scary! The guy calls the police and tells them to send out animal control. The dog didn't have any collar on. There were some other neighbors standing on their porches so the guy hollers over and asks if the dog was theirs and they said no that they tried getting in their car and the dog chased them back to the house.

Chris had to come pick me up. I'm going to be completely paranoid now every time I go for a walk!

Color Run

I was so excited to sign up for the Color Run. It was my first time doing it. They really fill up fast so if you are interested in doing one make sure you sign up right away. I did it with my sister in law and cousin in Lansing. I am not a runner by any means and walked and jogged it.

Spray Park

Usually when we go to the local spray park it's during the day so it's just me and the kids. This weekend Chris and I took the kids and while I had an extra pair of hands I took some pictures. Both of the kids love the spray park. Also this spray park's water isn't freezing! Every other spray park we've gone to the water is so freakin cold but this one is perfect. At first I thought it might be a fluke but it's been this way every single time we've gone - it's awesome :)

Warning...sharing a million pics

So we decided we wanted to take Cain on a little summer vacation and with some family we decided on Michigan's Adventure. I had never been there before and Chris hadn't been sense he was younger. We decided to go on a Monday, in hopes of avoiding the crowds, and I couldn't be happier we did. Sunday we dropped Carly off with Grandma (because she wouldn't have been miserable tagging along all day) and headed to Muskegon. We decided to go to the hotel Sunday and enjoy the day. We got settled in and headed to the pool right away. At first Cain kind of acted scared about getting in the water - which is weird because he loves the water - and 15 mins later he is jumping in the deep end telling me not to catch him!

group shot: chris, me, cain, tuesday, alicia, bonnie, angie, jett

After dinner we went and found a beach on Lake Michigan. It started to rain a little bit while we were there but it wasn't bad at all. In the end Cain ended up in the lake in his undies and Chris, Bonnie, Jett, and Tuesday all ended up in lake with their clothes on.

i hate this picture - i look all slumped over trying to hold on to Cain

he was dancing - Ha!

Monday morning we woke up and headed to the park. It was of course raining but we braved it out and I'm so glad we did. There were no long lines, it wasn't super hot, it ended up being perfect and stopped raining shortly after. I didn't take my camera into the park so I got zero pictures from the day. Cain did so great and was super brave. He rode so many things I didn't think he would. We all had so much fun!

Kid Foods

So while you are reading this post I'm most likely enjoying the day at Michigan Adventure with my family. I wanted to post today about foods my kids eat because as a stay at home mom, or every mom for that matter, I feel like sometimes I've run out of things to feed my family. My kids are not super picky eaters - thank goodness. Here is a little list of things my kids eat or some regular things in our kitchen. Please feel free to share with me your kids favorites. Also some things one kid will eat and the other won't. Our family doesn't eat a lot of meat, which you will see from my list. I am not a good cook, like at all so these are all simple things that don't take a lot of time. We try and buy mostly organic but not every single item.

So lets start with breakfast - I always try to give them a "main" thing, fruit, and yogurt or at least two or three items for breakfast. They are hungry when they wake up.
-oatmeal with fruit
-whole grain waffles (Cain likes honey on it, I just butter Carly's)
-plain yogurt
-fresh fruit (favorites: strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, grapes, melon, bananas, peaches, oranges)
-cereal (cheerios or gorilla munch seem to be the favorites)
-toast, bagels, english muffins
-scrambled eggs (Carly will only eat hers with salsa)
-pancakes

Lunch Ideas - we do simple lunches around here. Again they usually get three items for lunch.
-avocado (Carly just likes plain cut up chunks)
-sweet potato fries (sweet potato sliced, covered in olive oil and cinnamon, and then baked)
-fresh fruit
-cheesy roll ups (tortillas with melted cheese)
-rice cakes with peanut butter
-sometimes a peanut butter sandwich for Cain but not to often
-soup (chicken noodle or veggie are their favorites)
-make our own "lunchables" with crackers, cheese, veggies, fruit, etc.
- cottage cheese

Dinner Ideas - again like every other meal we do a "main" item, a veggie, and a fruit.
-so any lunch idea can be used for dinner as well
-veggies my kids eat with lunch or dinner: peas, carrots, broccoli, green beans, and chard are the most often eaten in our house.
-fish sticks or baked fish
-cheese ravioli or spaghetti
-mac and cheese (I get organic not Kraft)
-make your own pizzas
-neither of my children like mashed potatoes :(  but they will eat fried potatoes that are cut into cubes.
-they both like sauteed mushrooms
-baked chicken

Snacks - I try throughout the day to make snacks things like fruit, cheese or yogurt but we do regular old snacks too.
-pretzels with peanut butter
-Wheat Thins
-Cain calls them "snack peas" they are the long crunchy pea snacks from trader joes
-Pirate Booty
-Goldfish or the organic equivalent
-cheerios for Carly or "puffs"
-dried fruit

That's all I can really think of right now. I know something else will pop into my mind later. Also Cain loves him some "nugs" from McDonalds so I'm not trying to be all holier then thou. He will have a happy meal every now and then. Even when I eat shitty during the day I always make sure my kids have healthy foods/meals. So now it's your turn - share yours or your kids favorite things :)

Our 4th ...

we had tons of fun yesterday. I of course took lots of pictures to share.
We spent most of the day with family - and most of the day eating.
Best family picture I could - of course it was later in the day so I look kind of crappy :/

On our way to the Hicks' house :) One of our many walks back and forth that day.

Cain playing Tyler's drums in the garage.

Sparklers

Our city's fireworks were actually last weekend - so weird I know.
This was us catching them from the van way past Mr. Cain's bedtime.

Hope everyone had a great 4th! We are off to Michigan Adventure this weekend - can't wait to share it :)

I don't want to be like...

hey everyone look at how cute my kids are but hey ya'll look at how cute my kids are :)
We are making cupcakes for a bbq that we are going to tomorrow - Cain loves cooking!

And oh my goodness this girl! She is so close to walking. She stands by herself in the middle of the room and just smirks. I just know that when she stays with Grandma for two days she's going to take her first steps. I just know it will happen that way - the first time I leave her and I'm going to miss it!

So happy 4th of July everyone! We will be spending the afternoon barbecuing with family.
Hope you all have a great weekend and I'll post more later :)
