Yesterday I decided we were going to go do something fun all together. So I called Chris and told him to meet us at Jungle Java after he got out of work. This was our second time going there and Cain loved it even more this time. I tried to get a few pictures but he really wouldn't stop moving long enough for me to get any good ones.
I really like this blog I found a couple of months ago. (I think the layout is a little bit hard to follow) I agree with most of the things she discusses. I don't understand why people act like children have to be hovered over 24 hours a day. I remember when my sister and I were younger - we would come home from school, change our clothes, and leave on our bikes until dark. We were at the park, we were on trails in the woods, etc. This all happened in elementary school - like 4th grade or so. We checked in with our parents but there were periods of time where we were not in eyesight of our parents and we didn't die. We were allowed to ride our bikes (without wearing helmets - gasp!) on a busy road to the party store and buy candy. This was when we were a little older but still elementary school age.
Now there are stories of women getting arrested because her children were playing on the sidewalk in front of her home without adult supervision. Someone really thought she was endangering her children and called the police. A women lets her kids play at the park alone and it's on her criminal record.
I really try to encourage Cain to do things by himself. He gets dressed by himself. He can put his shoes, coat, hat, etc. on by himself. He can help unload the dishwasher, help put laundry in the washer/dryer. He helps me take the trash out. I want him to grow up and believe he can do things not that he needs me to be there watching over him every second.
Please don't think I am talking about letting my 3 year old go play near the street by himself or something like that because obviously! but letting him do age appropriate things by himself is good for him and good for me.
I took a few pictures so you all could see some recent ones...
Carly has been crawling all over the place. It is so cute that Cain has started "playing" with her lately. He will crawl around on the floor with her, make her laugh, give her toys when she is trying to play with his. He is a great big brother! When she wakes up from her naps during the day he runs in there and talks to her and asks how her nap was :) She adores him!
She rocks her brothers hand me down blue pj's
Cain got a ton of "big boy" puzzles for Christmas and he loves doing them. I'm always a little surprised when he can do these larger ones all by himself already.
Besides the crawling she has started pulling herself up on things. We put her crib mattress at the lowest setting because of it and thank goodness we did. I walked into her room this morning and she was trying her hardest to pull herself up in bed. I can't believe how stinkin' big she is getting.
Other random things -
~ She is eating all kinds of baby foods now days and pretty much likes them all. Her least favorite so far has been peas.
~ She has started drinking from a sippy cup a little bit. She mostly likes to chew on it and play with it but she is realizing what it's for and starting to drink out of it.
~ Cain is still going to story time at the library once a week and he is really starting to warm up. He has been doing all the songs with the kids and just not being so shy in general.
~ We are starting to look for a preschool in our new area for him for the fall. This makes me super sad and so excited for him at the same time.
Obsessing over: Cain going to preschool in the Fall. We still haven't found the school he is going to attend yet. I'm trying to find the "perfect" preschool for him and I'm excited for him but also super sad that this is really happening in our home.
Working on: Cleaning and organizing my home after the holidays. I hate the feeling of things everywhere and stuff out of place. It drives me bonkers.
Thinking about: Trying to remember all the "teething tricks" that worked for Cain because Carly is a teething monster right now. Cain got his first teeth at the end of 6 mo. so if she is anything like he was she should be getting some very soon.
Anticipating: My 30th birthday.
Listening to: James And The Giant Peach - Cain likes this movie, I think it's weird.
I started this blog three years ago - I was inspired and wanted to start documenting my life and motherhood with a new baby. I can't believe I've been writing for this long because I feel like I have nothing to write about. And yet here I am writing still - three years later - 343 posts later.
I am hoping that 2013 is a great year for all of us. (It's already started out great by finding out that Jackie's surgery was successful and they we able to get all of her cancer out!) Looking forward to... watching my children grow and learn everyday - Hopefully finding a part time job for myself - Chris thriving this year at his job - Spending more time with family and friends - Making new friends - Health and happiness all around!
